MINE/ERW RISK EDUCATION FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES IN JORDAN

Mine Risk Education for Syrian Refugees in Jordan Project started on 1 Jan 2017 , the main goal of this project is to raise awareness of the risks and dangers of mines/ERW, to promote safe behavior among the Syrian refugees in Jordan and to minimize the number of potential victims of mines/ERW upon returning to their home country. The Jordanian province of Irbid, where the project activities are to be implemented, is host to an extensive number of refugees coming mainly from the Syrian province of Daraa. As a result of a series of armed clashes in the aforementioned province, which have been taking place between various warring parties since 2011, these areas are contaminated with mines and ERW. Considering the trends and projections for the repatriation of Syrian refugees, who are not expected to be familiar with safe behavior in areas contaminated with mines, this Project will provide the implementation of awareness-raising workshops on the dangers of mines and ERW for target groups. Such activities will raise the awareness of the target groups, as well as the level of knowledge of this problem, improving safe behavior and decreasing the risk factors in contaminated areas upon returning to their home country. The project covers two main age-range categories of Syrian refugees; under 18 years (Syrian students at Jordanian schools) and the second category; above 18 years (Syrian refugees in charities and UNHCR )

“The Project has been financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and its Development Cooperation program through ITF Enhancing Human Security”.
