AMACC is committed to minimize the risk from Mines /ERW and reduce the number of possible Mines/ERW victims (for civilians, refugees and IDPs) whose affected from war by raising awareness of Mine/ERW risks and threats among women, men, girls and boys, taking into consideration their different needs ,vulnerabilities, and roles by promoting safer behaviour

RE team deploy several ways for delivering safety messages to the targeted beneficiaries based on the gender, age of targeted communities -taking into consideration gender balance- like; Acting -Role playing, Indoctrination (direct teaching) Playing (e.g. football), Drawing, Audio and video presentation (clip movies), Discussion groups,…etc. the purpose is to ensure that the safety messages delivered and understood by the targeted beneficiaries in easy and right way.

The role of RE team is to raise awareness of Mine/ERW risks and threats among women, men, girls and boys (civilians, refugees and IDPs) including displaced people through informing them about the hazards of mines and ERWs in the countries that are suffering from the armed conflict, the type of marking signs, exact locations of cleared or marked areas, and how they should deal if they saw any indicators for risk, planned demining activities. Finally, RE team ensure that the targeted beneficiaries (refugees, IDPs, or civilians) addressing the risks they might encounter in the at-risk communities or once they can return to their homes in the future.

Risk Education Project for Syrian Refugees in Jordan

According to the data of the Jordanian Department of Statistics (Dec-2017) there are approximately 1361000 in Jordan and there are 369395 refugees living in the Irbid provinc

The RE project has been financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and its Development Cooperation program through ITF Enhancing Human Security

RE project for Syrian refugees in Jordan designed mainly to achieve the following goals:

  • Raising awareness of landmine/ERW risks and threats
  • Promoting safe behaviour among the Syrian refugees in Jordan and thereby minimizing the number of possible landmines/ERW victims upon their repatriation.
  • Reducing the social and economic impact from landmines and ERW
  • Providing targeted group with general awareness and safety messages in order to minimise the risk of accidents
  • Establishing proper safety procedures
  • Avoiding contact with various explosive devices
  • Taking appropriate action in emergency situations involving mine/ERW incidents
  • Taking appropriate action in case of accidental entry into a dangerous area

The project targeted Syrian refugees in Jordan as follows;

  • Syrian refugees between the ages of 7 and 18 in Jordanian schools.
  • Syrian refugees between the ages of 7 and +26 in charities, UNHCR and Azraq Camps

The project period: in Jan 2017 – July 2022

AMACC delivered approximately 1676 sessions for 61964 beneficiaries in Irbid governorate, UNHCR , charities and Azraq Camps till Feb 2022

Risk Education Project in Iraq-SOS

SOS RE Project enable mine/ERW affected communities to be fully aware of the mine/ERW threat and to participate in the prioritization of mine action responses in order to reduce their mine/ERW risk. Safety messages delivered by Regular sessions, Adults football league, Children tournament, TOT.

  • The project also aims to create an ideal society, which in turn will educate the rest of the affected communities to eliminate accidents caused by mines and remnants of war and minimize losses and human casualties
  • the project works to develop the capacity of communities to interact with mine action services and to ensure that these mine action services are responsive to community requests;
  • local people in target areas are mobilized to become focal points for the mine/ERW problems in their communities through the establishment of Mine/ERW Committees at village, sub-district and district level
  • the project works to establish links with community development organizations to assist with development projects for individuals, groups or communities at risk, and with victim assistance projects for the reintegration of individuals injured by mines and ERW

Targeted Provinces: Basra, Thi Qar, Maysan, and Muthana

The project started in 1 Aug 16 and still ongoing

Timeframe: Aug 2016 – Ongoing

Description:The overall goal of this Spirit of Soccer (SOS) program is to be proactive and promote Mine Risk Education (MRE) to potentially at-risk Iraqi’s children through soccer coaching activities in the southern region of Iraq. This awareness is aimed at reducing the number of child fatalities and injuries that may be caused by landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) especially in affected communities.
